Every few years, Washington finds a new healthcare villain – drug manufacturers, PBMs, insurers, or hospitals. Hearings are held, headlines are written, and promises of reform are made; yet the underlying problems persist. In his latest op-ed for DC Journal, Managing Partner Michael Abrams argues that healthcare’s biggest challenge isn’t cost – it’s accountability.

When every stakeholder points fingers at someone else, consumers are left without a voice, prices remain opaque, and incentives continue to reward revenue over value. The administration’s renewed focus on hospital price transparency is a step in the right direction, but transparency alone won’t fix a system that has spent decades rewarding opacity and cost shifting. Real reform requires changing the incentives through meaningful accountability, better data on quality and outcomes, and enforcement with real consequences.
