NAI President Dr. Rita Numerof discusses the latest data released by CMS on the over 3,000 hospitals participating in the Hospital Value-Based Purchasing Program.  This year, the program reduced Medicare payments to all hospitals by 1.25 percent, reserving the funds for hospitals that demonstrate high performance.

“When you think about how a lot of these hospitals are working tight margins to begin with, 1 percent or 1.5 percent can be significant to the bottom line. … In that sense, the potential of the program to have a significant impact on health care systems is pretty serious,” Numerof said.
