NAI INTERVIEWED BY DES MOINES REGISTER ON ACCOUNTABLE CARE ORGANIZATIONS

Rita Numerof, Ph.D., President of Numerof & Associates, Inc. (NAI), was interviewed for an article on accountable care organizations (ACOs) by the Des Moines Register’s Tony Leys. In the article, titled New Health Care Payment System Links Costs, Patients’ Outcomes, Dr. Numerof expressed concern that both quality metrics and patient input that are supposed to integral to ACOs have been watered down.

“Unless patients become better informed and have more voice about the quality of their care the accountable care organization rewards are likely to become increasingly focused on cost. That could effectively bring a return to the days of health maintenance organizations,” she said.
