Managing Partner Michael Abrams spoke with Healthcare Finance News on the continued challenges Medicare Advantage will face in 2025, including rising utilization, and decreasing profitability.

Utilization went up in 2024 unexpectedly, possibly reflecting pent-up demand carried over from the pandemic, or from people delaying their care.

Abrams added that insurers may look to adjust their operable markets to manage higher-cost plans. While Centene has confirmed it will be exiting the MA market in six states, he noted that other large players, like Humana, will likely wait this out.
