Cigna’s next chapter will depend on how effectively the company evaluates and optimizes the businesses and investments built over the past decade. David Cordani’s tenure was defined by building scale. New CEO Brian Evanko’s challenge will be determining how to best leverage that platform and answer a critical question: how will Cigna deploy its capital to create long-term value?

In an interview with Health Payer Specialist, Managing Partner Michael Abrams shared his thoughts on Evanko’s transition to CEO and the strategic decisions that will shape the company’s future.

The early part of his [Evanko’s] tenure is going to involve reevaluating the empire that Cordani put together, and deciding which pieces he wants to keep and which pieces he will divest.

Abrams added that, given Evanko’s actuarial background, he expects efficient capital allocation to be a key focus of his leadership.
