Managing Partner Michael Abrams spoke with AIS Health on the announcement from the Purchasers Business Group on Health on an advanced primary care initiative in the state of Washington. While Abrams applauded PBGH’s initiative, he noted the challenge of convincing physicians to move away from the traditional fee-for-service model.

As much as that makes sense, I can’t say that I’ve came across a lot of organizations that have successfully and convincingly implemented a program like this.

Abrams added that CMS and other major payers are lowering reimbursement rates, leading many independent physicians to join larger hospital systems.
